Seaford and Newhaven sit a couple of miles apart and could not be less alike to work in. One is a quiet retirement and family town with generous roads; the other is a port town with traffic that appears from nowhere when a ferry unloads.
Seaford
The seafront and Marine Parade
Flats and converted houses facing the shingle. Access is decent and parking is usually findable. The genuine variable is weather — this is an exposed front, and wind changes how you carry a wrapped mattress or a wardrobe door.
The town and the Sutton estates
Bungalows and semis on the slope behind the front, most with driveways. Straightforward moves, with the usual single-storey caveat that contents spread wider than a terrace of the same volume.
Bishopstone and the western edge
Quieter roads, some older cottages, and the start of the Downs. Nothing difficult, but a few properties where the drive is shared and narrow.
Newhaven
The town centre, Denton, Valley Road and the streets near the port. Mostly terraces and postwar housing, all reachable. The thing to plan around is the A26 and the port approach, which can lock up for a quarter of an hour without warning. We schedule the loading window with that in mind.
The Cuckmere and the Downs villages
Alfriston, Litlington, West Dean, Jevington, Wilmington. These are the properties that need a look before a vehicle is allocated: flint walls with no forgiveness either side, sharp turns into yards, and a handful of houses that only a smaller van will reach. Where that is the case, we shuttle from the nearest sensible standing point. It is in the quote, not a surprise on the morning.
Travel from this end of the coast
The A259 runs east to Eastbourne and west to Brighton; the A26 heads north through Newhaven to Lewes and on to Uckfield. Anything going further afield is planned as a full household move. Moves that carry on abroad leave via Kent — see European removals.

Is the seafront exposed enough to matter?
On a bad day, yes. A south-westerly straight off the Channel makes carrying wrapped furniture along Marine Parade genuinely difficult, and mattresses behave like sails. If the forecast is poor we will suggest shifting the start rather than fighting it.
Do you cover Newhaven as well?
Yes — the town, the Denton and Valley Road estates, and the properties near the port. It is straightforward work with one caveat: port traffic on the A26 can back things up badly at the wrong hour.
What about the Downs villages behind Seaford?
Alfriston, Litlington, West Dean, Bishopstone and the Cuckmere valley. Narrow lanes, flint walls that leave no margin, and a couple of approaches where only a smaller vehicle is going to manage. Worth a look before quoting, and we do look.
Can I move from Seaford straight to France?
You can, and it is a common enough route from this end of the coast. The load runs east to the Kent crossings rather than out of Newhaven, because the tunnel and the Dover ferries suit household loads better.
