Uckfield is a commuter town with a market town's centre — a narrow High Street that climbs, and modern estates spreading out around it. Most moves in the town itself are uncomplicated. The interesting work is in the lanes beyond it.
The town
The High Street and Church Street
Older buildings on a slope with limited standing room. Fine early in the day, awkward at school run times. Several properties have rear access that is worth the longer carry.

Out into the Weald
Buxted, Framfield and Isfield
Village houses and converted farm buildings, mostly on lanes that will take a Luton if it is driven sensibly. Passing places are the practical constraint, not width.
The Ashdown Forest edge
Maresfield, Nutley, Fairwarp, Duddleswell. Beautiful and genuinely awkward — single-track approaches, overhanging trees that will not clear a high vehicle, and gravel that turns soft after a wet week. Where the lorry cannot get in, we shuttle.
Smallholdings and equestrian property

Travel from Uckfield
The A22 runs south to Hailsham and Eastbourne and north towards East Grinstead and the M25. The A26 drops down to Lewes. Both are slow with a loaded vehicle, and anything heading further than Kent or Surrey is planned as a long household move with a realistic first leg.

Do you cover the Ashdown Forest side?
Yes — Nutley, Fairwarp, Maresfield and the lanes off them. The houses are good, the approaches are often single track with mud in winter, and a few need a smaller vehicle to reach the door. We look at the approach before committing a Luton to it.
How long does it take to get from Uckfield to the coast?
Longer with a load than the map suggests. The A26 down to Lewes and the A22 towards Hailsham are both slow and neither has much overtaking. We crew accordingly rather than promising a tight turnaround.
Is Uckfield itself easy to move in?
Mostly. The High Street is tight and worth avoiding at school times, but Ridgewood, Manor Park and the newer estates have driveways and turning space. It is one of the more straightforward towns in the county.
